Sac Open Studios - Weekend 1 Day 2
Time & Location
About the Event
Black Artist Foundry has partnered with Sac Open Sudios & Verge Center for the Arts to provide space for Black artists to participate in this exciting regional event. Presented annually by Verge Center for the Arts, Sac Open Studios is a free, self-guided studio tour which is open to any artist in Sacramento County or West Sacramento. In 2019, it attracted over 30,000 visitors and featured more than 250 emerging, mid-career and established artists in their homes and studios.
Traditionally, participating artists open their art studios to the public during two weekends in September. During Sac Open Studios, the term art studio takes many forms. While plenty of the participating artists have traditional work spaces in studio facilities, many Sac Open Studios artists open their home studios or utilize other spaces to display their art during their assigned weekend.
Since the studio locations of participating artists span all Sacramento City Council districts and West Sacramento, it has been one of the most impactful ways in which we fulfill our mission to expand access to contemporary art throughout the region.
Last year, in response to public health measures, Sac Open Studios took a fully virtual format. Instead of in-person studio visits, over 10,000 virtual tour goers tuned into an engaging interview series featuring artists and local art professionals, communicated directly with artists during social media livestreams, and found more information about their favorite artists in a brand new, digital artist directory. With the COVID vaccination process underway, Verge has planned a hybrid virtual and in-person program for 2021.
Whether in person or virtual, Sac Open Studios encourages the public to embrace the creativity which flourishes within their own neighborhoods.
